Shelter NSW is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation which promotes the housing interests of people on low incomes. Shelter is mainly funded by the NSW Government through Family & Community Services (FACS).
As an incorporated association under the NSW Associations Incorporations Act (2009) our current constitution, with the changes approved by members at the 2018 Annual General Meeting, is registered with the NSW Fair Trading.
The principal object of the association is to work towards the benevolent relief of poverty, distress or disadvantage suffered by individuals or families in New South Wales by:
promoting appropriate, accessible, affordable and secure housing options for vulnerable and disadvantaged people in New South Wales, including people experiencing homelessness
participating in the development of national, state and local Government housing policies to promote an increase in the supply of secure, appropriate and affordable housing, including an expanded and improved housing system which is accessible to vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and groups.
