3. Review of minutes from April 2004 meeting

(1) Mark Green’s paper

  • Lucy has replaced Mark and is updating the paper; she is not sure (a) whether it is only about visa class 202 or broader and (b) how the paper will be used
  • Lucy will check what came out of the Budget and will send a copy of the paper to Anglicare, RRAC and RSN (see (4) below)

(2) Federal Election 2004: discussed whether TF should organise separate pre-election forum/s.

(3) Private rent issues

  • Michelle from Tenants Union is happy to attend TF meetings
  • Case studies – need to keep collecting them
  • Training by WESTS for TF members and colleagues – new date 3 August 1-4.30 pm

(4) Refugee Support Network (RSN) – RRAC (Refugee Resettlement Advisory Committee) is being reconvened (Immigration Minister appoints members): we can send Mark/Lucy’s paper to RRAC

(5) Other business: Item 9 (2) in April minutes – Dept of Housing partnership proposal: we had intended to discuss this at the June meeting but postponed it till next meeting (August).

(6) History and structure of TF: Cheryl gave an interesting run down and produced a fabulous diagram outlining the TF history (copies available at next meeting).

(1) Lucy to email paper to TF members; clarify (a) and (b) with Mary

(2) Decided to participate in Shelter pre-election forums and raise NESB issues there

(3) Invite Michelle to next TF meeting. Everyone keep collecting case studies. Annie to email flyer to Maureen to send on to Shelter to distribute to TF members

4. DoH Antisocial behaviour proposals

Discussed the 4 May proposals by Ministers for Housing; Consumer Affairs; and Premier. For details see Shelter, Tenants Union and NCOSS websites.

Everyone write to Ministers and local MPs and ask consumers to write - opposing proposals.

5. Agenda items for meeting with DoH on 1 July

Proposed agenda items:

(1) Update on antisocial behaviour proposals

(2) DoH EAPS and links to DoH Multicultural strategy

(3) Update on DoH Multicultural strategy

(4) DoH restructure – consultation to include community proposals/ issues/ items listed earlier on the agenda [Items (1) to (3)]

(5) Semra (on behalf of Auburn Humanitarian Network) joined the meeting and asked the TF to raise the matter of working in partnership with the Dept to welcome new arrivals: the Network wants the public housing section of the Dept to provide a place and the Network members will provide support to new tenants.

All TF members welcome to attend: Thursday 1 July, 10am Dept of Housing, Liverpool Rd , Ashfield

 

 

 

 

(5) Annie agreed to discuss with Semra/ Network to get more details (paper/ background) and invite Semra to attend the DoH meeting on 1 July

6. Farewell to Rajni

Rajni’s position is not being funded next year so she’s looking for another one. Members thanked Rajni for her contribution to the TF and wished her luck.
