6. Upcoming Federal election
|
* The next federal election is crucial for social housing: Commonwealth Govt provides money for social housing under the Commonwealth/State Housing Agreement (CSHA). * We need to ask all parties to state what they will do if elected about increasing resources for social housing. * For useful issues to raise in letters to politicians: check Shelter NSW website – especially a Money Matters seminar paper by Carol Mills (former Deputy Director-General of Dept of Housing) * Shelter Seminar on social housing 24 June 2004 : politicians from major parties will be there; opportunities to raise issues from the audience. * Shelter is working on a lobbying resources kit and campaign for the election. * Key demand in lobbying all politicians is the need to re-open the CSHA to get $$ back to the level they were. * We should also use Mark’s paper to lobby all parties, endorsed by as many taskforce member organisations as possible |
Taskforce members who can should write to local federal member setting out client groups’ needs and why social housing is the most appropriate accommodation.
Attend the seminar if you can
Stay tuned to Shelter’s website www.shelternsw.org.au
Taskforce members to discuss with their own organisations: to endorse Mark’s paper and send it to politicians as a taskforce document |

Annie (Rene’s colleague) will distribute a flyer about training 28 July for other interested community workers.
