NESB Housing Taskforce NSW |
Auburn Migrant Resource Centre, Auburn
Attendance: Maureen, Monica, Renee, Rajni
Apologies: Mary Perkins, Cheryl, Jasmina, Tessa, Mark Green
The meeting opened at 2.45.
Rajni apologised for not providing the minutes of the previous meeting.
Mary from Shelter was unable to be at the meeting because of a housing conference in South Australia that all staff at Shelter were attending. She would be convening the taskforce in 2004. It was agreed that the meeting calendar for 2004 would be decided at this meeting. The dates would be given to Auburn MRC so that a meeting room would be available for 2004. The following dates were agreed on — venue: Auburn MRC; time: 2.30 to 4.00 pm: 25 February 04, 21 April 04, 16 June 04, 18 August 04, 20 October 04, 15 Dec 04.
The three consultations with the Department of Housing will be in addition to the above.
It was felt that the taskforce needed a clear cut agenda/plan for the next year. The first meeting for the new year could be earmarked for planning. Some of the projects that the taskforce could look at could include partnership projects with NCOSS, Shelter and other peaks. The CRC-SSC partnership project developed by the SSC would be placed on the agenda for the next consultation with the Department. Cross cultural training for real estate agents was discussed this year. It was determined that TAFE did not provide any cross cultural training in its training package. However other training providers though contacted had not yet sent the information on their training packages. The Real Estate Institute had not been contacted. MMRC had developed a proposal to train real estate agents in the Macarthur region. An update on this project would be sought. Jenman was a real estate group promoting good practice in home purchase. Jenman’s should be asked to speak to the taskforce on their business. All of these initiatives needed to be followed up in the new year.
Agenda items for the next consultation on the 4 th of December with the Dept of Housing were discussed. The proposed agenda items would be sent to Blanca on the 27 th. Members of the taskforce could bring up other agenda items not on the agenda and this would be conveyed to Blanca. This was necessitated as the attendance at this meeting was poor.
Meeting closed at 3.30 pm.
Note: The taskforce is meeting the Department of Housing on 4.12.03 at their office at 9.30 in 223 Liverpool Rd, Ashfield. The next regular meeting of the Taskforce will be on 25 February 04 at Auburn MRC.
