The National Housing Supply Council released its State of supply report 2010 on April 27, which estimates that there was a shortage of 493,000 affordable and available private rental dwellings for lower-income households in Australia in 2007–08. more…

On April 27, the Productivity Commission announced that it will be conducting an inquiry into Australia's aged care system. Submissions on an issues paper released by the commission are due by July 30. more…

Also on April 27, the NSW Department of Planning released the 2008–09 Metropolitan Development Program report. The report estimates that the net long-term dwelling need for Sydney for the period 2006 to 2036 is between 24,400 and 26,600 dwellings per year. more…

A report by National Shelter and prepared by the National Association of Tenant Organisations on improving Australian tenancy law and preventing homelessness was released in April.
